From its many coloured array of songs to its comic, straightforward and minimalistic approach, Um Gajo é Parvo delivers an energetic and marvellous new record. Gilberto Miranda effectively defines his project’s musical character, by combining old casio toy keyboard loops/samples and memorable guitar riffs. His rock n´ roll influences are manifested in “Disco Panda”, an album full of self-irony, positive (as well as darker) sentiments and sing-a-long-like melodies.
The songs are indeed a somewhat eclectic collection of various ideas, surprisingly falling in one coherent concept. From the country rock-like “Freedom Fairy Tale”, the straightforward punk burst of “Japanziti / She’s Gone Away”, the beautiful lo-fi ballad “The Southern Beach” and the post-rock infused “Candid”, using a patient and vivid production, the record blends these extensive bits in a brilliant way. Especially perceived in the context of the contemporary indie rock scene, where artists seemingly trying to stand out as unique as possible, it seems that for Um Gajo é Parvo it works out naturally. “Disco Panda” truly sounds like a fresh breeze of a genuine rock’n’roll energy.
